I bought the SC400 used and the car has 136,000 miles on it. I'll be changing the timing belt but also don't know if I should replace the water pump.

As far as I see, there's no coolant leaks or anything. However, I'm not sure if I should replace the water pump at the same time to save work for the future or save the money for now. Also, I can't contact the previous owner for any info. Could anyone please help me out to decide this situation? What does the factory maintenance say?

Any idea is greatly appreciated!

You should change it since things are out. Its only 80 dollars or so. Here are some articles on it. www.lextreme.com/tech.html and looking for timing belt part 1 and part 2.
You should change the water pump along with tensioner pulley, crank and cam seals.

Hi,

As regards the tensioner pulley, I'm replacing mine at the same time as replacing the water pump and the cam belt. However, Lexus in the UK want about £80 ( $150 US approx) for each of the idler pulleys, theres two per engine and I have two engines......ouch.....

Is there a cheaper alternative than the Koyo bearing Lexus provide..........Koyo do not sell this particular bearing outside Japan. ( I wonder why?)

Anyone got an alternative supplier?

Cheers,

Tony

Only the left side cost more, the right side is very cheap. There are aftermarket pulleys on ebay, but i would stick with oem.

So how many belt tensioners or pulleys are on each side? I thought there's only 1 on each side? Could you please help me out by stating what's exactly called for each item and how many are needed? I'm kinda lost when looking at the picture only.
