transmission swap

hey there may sound like a silly question am just pulling the auto out of my celsior and am not sure about the starter motors involvement thanks to this awesome sight i am now aware its in the valley however do i need to take inlet of moter or do i simply take the trans out and it stays on motor cheers guys
