The Lextreme forum has been the prime inspiration in going for the 1UZ-FE engine on our ongoing FJ40 Build. We are running an H150F manual transmission and TLC 70 series diffs (with 4 wheel disc brakes and eLockers). We have nearly completed the mechanical aspects and the car/jeep is on the road.

We hope to get rid of the few electronic hiccups and move on to finishing the body and paint work. Some photos of the build will follow.

The 1UZ is still pretty much unchartered territory around here and we have run the manual trans using an adapter plate and toyota clutch, flywheel and pressure plates.

The FJ40 is running very nicely and is a lot of fun to drive on the road, touch wood! We are experiencing the rev limiter which is kicking in rather early at around 5000rpm. Not sure if this is some remnants of traction control, auto trans or something else. I have searched on the net but have not found something very relevant!

We are facing some other minor issues with some shorting plug wires and getting the following error codes:

13: cam timing or rpm signal???
27: sub oxygen sensor left cam - sensor not currently in place)
47: sub throttle position sensor - have the buterfly locked in open position, possibly a wiring issue

Any views on the above particularly the rev limiter would be very helpful.

Not sure about the RPM issue. Could several different issues that causes it.

1. It's a calibration issue is you are using the original tachometer to read the signal.

2. Fuel/Oxygen issue? Not sure if the ECU has protection if it reads too lean.

Codes
13 - Could be one of the cam sensors was not wired correctly, an igniter or coil is not wired correctly, or a grounding issue

27 - If you are not running the sub-O2 sensors, you'll continue to get this code. I have a write-up from one of the other members on how to build an O2 sensor simulator for the sub-O2 sensors to make the code go away. See http://1uzsupra.com/o2-heater-simulator for the plans.

47 - If you did not wire in the secondary TPS on the second butterfly then this will be the cause of the code.

Hopefully if I have something incorrect above, someone more knowledgeable will speak up.

Many many thanks! Thats some helpful info.
We managed to fix the rev limiter, it was actually a faulty injector which was replaced. Rig is running much smoother, albeit it is much more scary now to drive :)

There is still some missing at the lower end which will hopefully be fixed with new spark plugs and wires! Will look into the error codes some more....
