Hi all,

I'd like to swop my mid sump for a front sump.

Is it a simple matter of unbolting everything, swopping pickups and then bolting the new sump on?

What about the dipstick differences?

Are the oil pans the same? The front sump pan I've got is pretty stuffed...

All you ned to do is unbolt the tin pan then the alloy pan, remove the oil pickup and reverse the order with the new sump.

No parts are interchangable between different versions of sump.

The dipstick fits the alloy section of the assembly.

On the mid sump engine the dipstick passed through the head and down an oil drain tube.

Just make sure you get all the parts.

Also use a new gasket on the oil pickup/pump connection.

Excellent, thanks a million.

Is there any way to mod the mid-sump dipstick to fit the front-sump or can I just block the hole in the alloy section of the front sump and continue to use the mid-sump dipstick?

The mid sump dipstick won't enter the oil in the pan on a front sump.

You do need the correct dipstick.

The mid sump dipstick holder pulls out of the head and the hole can be blocked with a small alloy plug.

I just converted a 4.7 block to my 4.0 pans, and it was a straight swap except for a few holes in the aluminum pan were drilled for 10mm bolts and the 4.7 has 12mm bolts, just 5min fix with a drill.

I read that a 2UZ sump is probably the way to go.

The 2UZ's in South Africa are all from Land Cruisers which means rear sumps right?

IF i manage to find such a thing, would I use the 2UZ dipstick?

Excuse the noob questions...

Yes, 2uz is rear sump, have one sitting in front of me right now. The dipstick was supposed to mount up with the 2uz pan... so you will need both 2uz stick and pan to make everything fit correctly.
