Starter motor wont engage

After heading out in the mud the other week the 1uz started running rough. i thought thats ok, petrols do that sometimes when they get wet. but when i got it home it would start and run fine for a couple of days, but now the starter motor wont run at all.

i checked the ECU output and there is power when the key is turned to start but no starter action. not real keen to pull the starter out if it could be another issue.

any ideas?

motor is in a 91 surf with lex auto.

seems like it is the starter that needs to come out
is there a guide somewhere how to get this out?
I am stuck with at the injector/fuel rail remaval part.

Do a search there are instructions around here somewhere.

Simple way is remove the manifold to head bolts and the whole lot can be lifted without disturbing the fuel rails.

You need to disconnect a few wires but you can get away without removing any coolant lines.

Have a careful look and it will becme obvious.

was using 4agze starter, that came with engine... untill i had this problem and read further into it =.... got the 4age ae86 one now..??
