would it be best to go with a proven 2jz or a 1uzfe. Looking at make no less than 800hp (truck will way 2400lbs), and wanting to hit the 8 sec mark. Id like to do the 1uz for the fact that its a bit different, the problem is that I only want to do it once. I dont want to sink a ton of money into a engine build up and tuning and then not have it handle the power.
We all know that the 2jz will do it, its just a matter of money. The 1uz as far as I know hasnt been very popular witht the after market and there for will be just as much if not more to build.

Im just asking for you guys thoughts as this will be a project that will last me a couple of years.

Id go with a built 1UZ. It will hold 800 easy. The 2UZ is too heavy and you would only have a 4 bolt main and that would even take fabrication. With all ARP hardware, forged pistons, eagle H beam rods, stock forged crank re worked, that is one hell of a bottom end and if you can make that kinda power off a 3L 6, a 4L 8 is going to make that power easyer. I was assuming you are going turbo. What power adder are you going to use? single T, TT? NOS? all of the above?

It will be a turbo or 2 that Ill dicide when the time comes. I know that they often consider twin turbo as duel power adder in drag racing so thats another thing that will help with the decision.
If I where to go with the 2uz then for less weight and still a iron block Id go with the 2jz.
I really want to go with the 1uzfe just because you dont see it every day. At the same time I dont have the money to r&d the engine itself when I know a built and sometimes stock 2jz can handle it.

I would image the only R&D needed is the fabrication of fitting the engine in the chassis. With sound principales it is easy to get powr out of any setup. As said abouve the 1UZ is rock solid. The R&D most people do is trying to figure out how to stop breaking parts. With a strong bottom end you just need to stick to sensible intake temps etc and head work and you should be set. There are some very serious Drag only 1UZ's in Australia here. Have a search on this site.

What sort of truck are you using as your base?? If your using a Tacoma(Hilux) there are a few threads on these with the standard 1UZ conversion.
