Smashed my SC400

Long story, but i smashed my SC today. I'll need a hole new front clip (with airbags)

I was wondering if there are guys here with 1JZ soarers? and how do the car feels about low end power and city launches? does the 1J have enough low-end spool to counter the heavy weight of the car?

Were there 2JZ-GTE soarers?

I know there are V8 soarers but 1J are easier to find and probably cheaper.

I gotta thanx lexus for building a car as safe as the SC400. i have no scratches, no pain, nothing, the little mazda protege who hit me is a total loss and driver/passenger were a little shocked. Passenger had some blurs.

Sh*t happens... i'll probably explain more in details what happened tomorrow.

I hate that to happen, especially when you had done too much work on your car. I also heard that the SC has a very tough metal body so I'm positive you're ok. Get another SC V8 and turbocharge it.

OK, here's what happened yesterday.

i was at a Supra meet and we were cruising on a small road with a lot of corners. speed limit 70km/h. there was a very very tight corner (25km/h) but there's no sign the way we were to indicate how much tight the corner is, there's only a sign for people comming in the other way. One guy in front of me got suprised by the thight corner and kinda jumped on the brakes and lost control of his car. Since i didn't wanted to hit him i tried to evitate him by going in the other section of road ( it's only a 1 way road with a double line, so i steped on the other side of the line ) Then, by the magic of "timing" an other car was comming exactly at the same time in this corner. He also tried to evitate the car by going much on the side of the road. when i saw him i jumped on the brakes (i was already slowing down but not really hard) we hitted face to face. The frame of the SC seems ok, but the rails are pretty much damaged, the hole front end has moved about 2-3 inches to the left. (the car hit my right corner) No windows broken, windshield is OK, doors can't open because of the fenders but they are still aligned so i think it'll only need a new front end. No liquid seems to have leaked so i think the engine hasn't been damaged.

This week i'll go get the car (it's parked at the towing's garage by now) strip everything broken, store it for winter then save for a front clip, installation of the new front end and paint job. there's probably about 8000$ of damages on the car. The good thing is that if my insurances doesn't see my car (i'm not insured for my own damages) they can't scrap it, if they don't scrap it, i can use the air bags and module from the JDM front clip! (5000$ saved!) if they scrap it it'll be the end of the SC adventure...

I'm not insured for my own damage. so, unless somebody else is declared responsible for the accident, I'm the one to blame because I crossed the double line. Well, the police was kinda troubled on how it would be classified but the blame should be on me.

so, i won't get a penny to fix this car, i'll have so save and fix it. I don't want to buy another SC, i won,t find another with an interior that much clean, and probably won't find another with a black interior. unless the scrapyard give me 6000$ for the car (wich i know they won't give) I'll fix it.

Here are some pictures, the car doesn't seem to have that much damage because we can't see the bended rails and front end.

Doors are also a little damage but i think a good bodywork guy can bring them back to perfect condition.

if it was not of the car, i would have stopped on the grass or hit very gently a tree behind, there's no ditch in the ground

hummm, just forgot that JDM models are RHD.

I can use the steering airbag but i won't be able to use the passenger one. Could it be hard to find a non-blown Air bag for my car?

I do, when i think about a "free" 1JZ with some BPU and 100RWHP more than stock V8

car will have a new paint job too. those things happens, even if i'd cry, the car wouldn't have fixed by magic.

moved the car today to the storage.

Engine runs ok, no damage, even if the battery was crushed, it still has full power! The frame looks nice, nothing moved. I need a new passenger door, driver's door is ok.

and of course, need a hole new front end. Right now i'm trying to know if it's legal in my country to modify the car to make it RHD, knowing the fact that i'll keep all original secutiry systems (airbags), i'll just use all the JDM dash and mecanic.

THis migjht be a good time to upgrade the front end.. Use a 98 front end and try and get it used at the yards...Mount it up and paint it and you may get off cheap with the fix...Or even buy a front end body kit..THey have some nice ones out there.......I had Ihought your engine may have taken a hit....Get a new radiator, and you are good to go...Hopefully their is no frame damage....Good luck...

I'M getting a JDM half cut, for the same price i'll have a free engine, 2 airbags and 1 Airbag module. If i can get a 98+ JDM front end with a VVTI 1JZ i,ll use it and swap the engine. But those VVTI half cut are kinda rare. yes i tought about the body kit, it'd be a very good time to put one. I'll check how everything costs and i might install one. But nothing very big just something to give the car a more "low profile" look.
