I had my power steering pump rebuilt just under 5,000kms ago and it has allready started leaking out the shaft seal. How many ks or miles do people normally get out of them before this common leak starts?

Also does anybody have a pump they want to sell? as I now want a spare one that I can carry with me for when I`m in competion.

Did u installed the PS pump brand new or used? I have a spare one u can have but you need to rebuild it. Shipping to Australia is expensive. U better off getting one from Down Under.

With my 1st motor it was used. It died, so I had it rebuilt and it has now started leaking out the shaft seal. It has only done just under 5000kms since it was rebuilt.

Mine is also leaking but working properly.

I was wondering if we can buy a seal and change it ourself or we absolutely need to bring it to a special rebuild shop?

The pumps are very easy to rebuild/reseal but, the shaft needs to be in perfect condition where it goes through the front seal or it will still leak. The problem with getting a used one is it might be in the same condition as the one you already have. If you do get a used pump make sure it is very inexpensive or free or has a warranty!

They have some pretty good power steering stop leak fluids for small leaks, pepboys etc...Sometimes they work sometimes they don't...

Re built??

Hi guys if the pump was rebuilt properly and has started leaking from the seal I would say that it was damaged during instalation. I have found that it is very rear for the main shaft seal to leak but the o-rings on the oil inlet and the bung on the pressure relief valve get hard and shrink then leak the 2 oring cost less than a dollar and take about 10 mins to fit once the pump is off the engine.
If you need a s/hand pump i have some spares pm me for details.

Regards ozvenom.
