oil light comes on?

does this happen to anyone? i was driving for about 80 MPH then the engine oil light comes on, i slow down then the light goes off, does this means i need to change my oil pump? any oone know what is the cause of this?

Oil light comes on when there is low oil pressure.

I'd suggest to temporarily fit an oil guage so you can see exactly what is happening to the oil pressure.

If your oil level is low the engine can starve for oil due to the oil not getting down to the sump fast enough.

I know on my last car it had an oil level light. Sometimes it would come on but slow down and it would go out. I'd stop and put some oil in it and the light wouldn't come back on. The oil was sitting in the head and the oil in the sump dropped to a dangerous level.

There's no excuse for doing what I did but the only time I ever opened the bonnet on that car was when the light came on. About every 3-4 months!
