I've been looking at these older Caddy northstar motors recently as they are becoming very affordable on Ebay and in the junk yards...

This are pretty stout motors from what I have read. An affordable 1999 Northstar motor goes for well under $1000USD.. I found one for $800 on Ebay today with only 40,000 miles on it...

The 1999 Northstar motor spec -

- Alluminum block 32 valves
- Rated just over 300hp
- 4.6 liter in size
- chain linked timing belt..
- Can be mated to VW transmission and other Chevy trans with kits that are readily available...

Any thoughts on this engine fellas? It's definetely affordable and offers a nice bang for the buck... I know it is GM but I haven't heard anything bad about these older motors...

This is a pic of a 1999 Northstar engine...

write up on the motor...http://www.en.wilipedia.org.wiki.Cadillac_Seville#1998-2004 Sorry link didn't grab..

I was thinking about that for a while…

The complete engine + transmission + ECU cost 900 USD here.

I think its very good choice to build tube buggy sand car .

Yeah Mshawari1, but aren't most of them FWD with the mating tranny?.. If my memory doesn't fail me most of the those mid and late 1990 Caddy's were built FWD... Don't quote me on that though...

Besides the 1uz'fe motors, I really think this motor and the Q45 V8 motors are a good buy and good bang for the buck...

Just entertaining the ideas of decent 300hp motors for cheap to toy around with... Looking for input I guess... I remember these Northstar motors were the main competitor to the early model Lexus 1uz-fe's.. The Northstar motors were the Ew and ahh in it's time...

Yes, the new Cadillac is FWD. and that’s why I need to but the engine in the back of the buggy without any modification or differential axel.
BTW I won one Cady before "1994 Concourse" and it was very bad car to keep!!
I sell it for 900 USD !!
