Mini Muscle- 77 celica, got my 1UZ

I just purchased a '77 Celica ST. I have big plans for it, that will take some time. I'm on a budget, so will purchase all the parts and tools I need to complete the project as funds allow.

I will not be talking about what I'm going to do, or what I'm going to buy. I will update this thread when I actually have done something to it, or have purchased cool parts for it.

That said, here's the car.

The weather is finally getting nice. I hope to have time to start stripping the car soon. I had have another beater wagon I need to put an engine in first. It's taking all my will power to resist stripping the celica until the wagon is done.

I have received the megasquirt kits and EDIS ignition.

Haha, thanks toysrme. I think you might be the only other Lextreme person to post on HMT.

I wouldn't say I'm owning anybody. I'm a reformed Honda dude myself. HMT actually got me interested in hooking up cars. They tend to be really supportive of people trying new stuff, and doing the work themselves. The sh**talking and porn are good too. Not a fan of all the racism that is on there.

There are several things I miss about the hondas: readily available parts, and a wealth of info online.

Hah I know. That's because I'm only 2/3rds Lextreme.
Lextreme has posted there regarding SSA turbo's & that debacle.

My #2 car is a Civic hatch. I can't stand them. They're good at what they are. Little cheap cars LoL! (i.e. non-late model Honda's). Their "community" is huge. So many good people, but they can be impossible to find shoved in between all the downsides of that community.

Then again they run forever & get 45mpg on the highway... Can't argue with that! That's why I keep mine. It's worth more sitting on blocks in the driveway with a 1/4 tank of gas + stabilizer, and the battery being cycled than it is to get $500 for it hah! It needs new spark plug & valve cover gaskets, new axles, and a the rear drum brakes both are 100% destroyed. That's like... $100 to fix that whenever I quit driving it & start driving the ES full time again.

I've said it before. I dislike the online Honda community for the obvious problems with it. However, they are useful for *everyone* because:
1) They can reliably do what everyone else dreams of for a couple to a few hundred bucks.
2) Their solutions to some problems become nothing short of ingenious.
3) If it can't be made to work on a Honda, it won't work on anything. (Stock Honda's are weak)
4) If it hasn't been done to a Honda, it's never been done. ;)

Looking good. I will keep an eye on your project. I don't have any experience messing with steering, so it's valuable info to me. I need to read "how to make your car handle" again.

I'm collecting all the glamourous parts first.

I went nuts on Ebay yesterday.

Shadetree,

Try and swap your oil filter mount wth a Crown one.

It should bolt straight on and mounts the filter at the rear of the engine.

By the way you will need to put some of that stuff back on!

Don't forget that I still have your Crown oil filter mount. If you still want it let me know and I will bring it over.

It's mostly going in the trash.

Only stock parts going back on are the alt, starter, intake mani, water passages, and fuel rail. I'm going to harvest some plugs and wires out of the harness as well.

If anybody needs stock lex injectors, power steering pump, ac compressor, cruise control, throttle body, traction control, coil packs, or more stuff I'm forgetting, keep your eye of the classifieds....I'll be selling it CHEAP.

Finally got a little work done. Been real busy with yard work, kitchen remodel project, school midterms, my daily driver, massive garage cleaning, etc. Feels good to make a little progress after being stalled out with oterh priorities.

I got the car mostly stripped and cleaned. I got the fenders off, you wouldn't believe how much **** was in there. I hope to test fit the engine soon.

I have the 20R for sale

Hey,

How's the project going? I also have a 77 celica except its a liftback and a 1uz except its in my sc400. Anyhow, i real interested in how the megasquirt works out b/c of its cost and the rpm limit of the stock 1uz ecu. I originally wanted to put th 1uz into the celica, but instead a couple of years ago i got an sc400 instead. I still want to make something out of the celica and if i can get a cheap ecu that can handle some real cams this is a possiblity. The other combo i am seriously considering is an ls1-t56 set-up which they already have programble pcm's. Let me know what's up. It also be interesting to see the cost of adapting the 1uz to r154 as well.
thanks,
will

Slow going. I'm in school right now, so it always seems like I'm either short on time, or short money, or right now, both. I'm trying to be patient, waiting for good deals on parts. Still haven't found a tranny or rear end.

I'd like to make good progress on the body work this summer.

I'll be in an engineering program next fall, and will have access to a full machine shop. It has alot of fun toys: engine and chassis dynos, autoclave for composites, variety of lathes, mills, and CNC machines, TIG welders, etc, etc.
