I keep feeling heat coming through the steering colum as am driving my car what is this caused from. Please help I live in Las Vegas and it gets really really hot during the summer. SC400

Does your A/C work? Is the heat coming from a vent or the steering colum area in general?.. Also, is your temperature read normal on your cluster?

The inside of my SC400 gets warm too but that is because I have no underbody covers and after market Headers omit heat bigtime... Also my A/C doesn't work...Waaaaaa.....:17:

well i am missing a wheel well cover on the driver side, but yeah the heat gauge reads normal and I just feel heat coming through the steering colum area how can i fix this problem and it gets about 112 here in the summer

hey Guys i want to change my coolant. The stuff in it right now looks like the Toyota Red stuff. I bought SUPER TECH (Walmart) 50/50 premixed Coolant. It say for ALL MAKES N MODELS N COOLANT TYPES. It says it last for 150k miles or 5 years. I was wondering if its okay to use that type. The ingredients says it contains Water, Ethylene Glycol, and Diethylene Glycol.

One more thing. The reason i dont want to use the Toyta red stuff is becuz it about $20.00 where as the Walmart Super Tech is only $7. Also the Toyota Red stuff is only good for 2 years vs 5years for the Super Tech

Just be sure to use distilled or deionised water in your cooling system, not plain old tap water. BTW, this is a Toyota recommendation, not just mine.

There are too many loose ions floating around in tap water that will hasten the bimetallic corrosion in these motors.

It's been posted before, but nothing transfers heat as well as pure water. The "recommended" 50/50 mix of coolant & water may be OK for someone living in the Arctic, but for those of us in hotter climates, the best approach is to run the minimum percentage of coolant necessary for our climates to avoid boilovers and freezeups.

Some add a bottle of surface tension reducer (like Redline WaterWetter) and/or an anticorrosion type water pump lubricant, and the rest ought to be distilled water. Make sure the radiator fins are clean, the system is flushed, change to a slightly higher pressure cap on the radiator, and your motor should run noticeably cooler.

I know about distilled water in the batteries, however I didn't know you should run distilled water also thru the cooling system...Hmmm, I always thought good coolant has errotion blockers in it? No? I;ve always used tap in my cooling system..

i called the Lexus dealer and asked him if there is better coolant that the Toyota Red(2 yr). He said there is a PINK(5yr) but it cannot be mixed with the Red. Regarding the Redline/Waterline additives, wont that stuff clogg up your radiatior and heater core? I think I remember reading earlier where I believe some one said they used those radiatior additives and it clogged up the radiatior. I live in extreme climate where its HOT in the summer and very cold in the winter so I have to use 50/50. Sorry 2 more questions.
1. Is it mandatory to to open those two screw plugs on the engine block or can you just pull the lil plug under the radiator and it will be sufficent to get all the coolant out?
2. If i use a flush like Prestone, is it possible that some of it can remain in the cooling system parts and cause problems when mixed with the new coolant?

you must get ALL traces of the previous coolant out before installing a different one.Drop the drain plug out of the rad wont do it as coolant in engine will remain, and if you look, both hoses on the engine are right at the top of the motor. This will only drain it down to the bottom of the hose.

Take out your t/stat and run your garden hose through the engine and radiator till it comes out clean,i then clean tap water out with a good quality water.Drain the block with the plugs on the side if nessescery.

Wack in t/stat and new coolant, job done.
