Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right catagory but anyway...

Do the 1UZ's come in VVT-i or are only the 3uz's VVti? if they do are they 4.0l or 4.3l or either? do the vvt-i 1uz's use the same weaker rod's that the 3uz's use?

The reason i'm asking is i'm building my truck around a 98-03 GS400/GS430/aristo lexus running gear and dash and i want to use a vvt-i motor but i don't want to use one with the weaker rods as i'm going to be custom installing a m112 eaton blower(7psi max) on it for the first build,

also has anyone had any luck running the cam's advance/retard and intake butterfly's(they change the runner length) on an aftermarket ecu?

Aaron,

Vvti came on US spec 1UZFE engines in 1998. From the pictures on this site and one I have of a broken rod (not mine) from a vvti 1UZFE I would say that the vvti engines have the weak rods.

Broken rod picture to compare to the pics on Lextreme

John,

If i remember correctly the VVti rods are like the 2uzfe and 3uzfe rods. They are weaker comparing to the Pre-VVTi 1uzfe. However, I need to double check again.

You cant go wrong with Pre-VVTi. They are cheap and easier to find parts.
