Mine is the early (1990 model) 2 bolt main botom end. Couldn't afford the 4 bolt at the time and they were not very available when I purchased mine - lots more of them around these days surprisingly.
Number of bottom end fasteners not really and issue with these until you are pushing 8000rpm and 600 odd HP which I am far from at this stage. They do not use regular type mains caps where the 4 (or 6 as in the Toyota) bolt is a real advantage, they use a ladder frame which holds all the main bearing caps together. High HP applications they Stud the ladder frame and the 2 bolt ones take heaps more power than standard - the 4 bolts are of course better again.
The HP potential of the early ones is the same as the later ones once you start to modify them - the difference in standard power output is due to differences in factory exhaust headers and slight intake porting in the 4 bolt engines.
