so the reason im here is the stouts and LS400. yep you guessed it, im gonna use the LS as a donor for the stout. really dont know much about EFI systems but im reading (this site kicks ass btw). more questions right now then answers, but most of em are covered already so im not gonna ask em. plan to swap the whole harness over to the stout, it only came with about 80ft of wire in it total, so its just easier to not hack the LS harness and use the provided wires for stuff i need like the heater and lights.

still a couple months away from really starting on this project, but this site is makin my mouth water for it.

like i said, dont know much if anything about EFI, know carbs and classic yota's very well. im a fan of "sink or swim" so thats why my first EFI build will be a 1uz stout, why F around.

the only real question i have right now is...

i read on the web that there is a carb intake for a 1uz, is this true? if so where was it released (country)

Quit hoarding the stouts and GIMME one! LoL I've always wanted to do a 1uz stout dumped on bags! Instead I've done a uz ae86 and currently building a turbo 1uz ra21 celica

Definately post up lots of pics of the stout when you dig into it!

YEP love the idea of old body with high tech running gear...
These older models are starting to appreciate now that most vehicles this size are front wheel drive...

Put an exhaust on the Celica.. You'll make heaps more power...

Carb manifolds are available in New Zealand.

They were aftermarket so you would need to sort out an ignition system as well.

The EFI isn't too hard to work with. When I started with UZ's a few years ago I knew nothing about EFI now I know only a little more but have managed to get one running quite nicely.

Stick with the EFI you won't regret it.

I used to drive a Stout in the early 1970's as a milk delivery truck.

but i wanna dump my stout on bags :D ive got a 78 hilux frame to put the stout body on, and to hold the 1uz better. a stout frame is not fully boxed and all cross members are welded in.

im all about the old models, you cant "feel" a new car.

the celica actually has the newer 85 celica cast tri-y and 2in piping. i think that cast manifold is as good as the doug thorely (on my wheeler right now) if you clean up the manifold a lil bit.

thank you sir.

thought it was just a rumor, nice to have it verified via google ( note: this site was #2 result.:D ) couldnt find a price on a intake, but if im gonna spend that much on a iginition system, im going ITB they are way sexier then carbs anyway.

for now im going to put it in as is, then learn efi by elimintating wires and learning what they do.

For less than $500 you can put a Ford EDIS8 ignition on a 1UZ and keep the carbs if that's what you like. Just change the crank trigger wheel from the 12 tooth to a 36-1. No need for the cam trigger because it becomes a waste spark system. At that point, you don't need the OEM ECU, or any ECU for that matter. One little control box called the MegaJolt Lite Jr. will give you electronic timing control, based on RPM and manifold pressure, and it's a doddle to program with a laptop.

I've done it and run it on two engines now.

now that does change things a lil bit.

down the road i would like the motor to look somewhat old, it has plenty of power for what i want from it. plan on stripping as much of the timing cover off as possible and the more minimal i can make the wiring the better.

got wiring diagrams now :)

studying them, need to find a good book on EFI but i got a question about that.

should i, who knows nothing, buy a general type EFI theroy book like this one
http://www.amazon.com/Building-Tuning-High-Performance-Electronic-Injection/dp/1884089798

or would more targeted info be better http://www.drivewerks.com/tech/bosch_MFI.htm

im trying to understand how EFI works, as in the sensors, ecu n stuff. but at the same time all i have is a 1uz, do you think its worth sorting through all the extra info for the small bit that may directly apply to my "demostration model"?

AEM has a pretty good EFI "primer" for people who aren't familiar with it. It's a PDF document and I can send it to you if you'll PM me your email address. If after reading it, you decide you want something deeper, I'd go for one of the Bosch yellow books.

There are also classes that are put on by EFI University, and I understand they're excellent.

The books I've seen on Amazon by Hartmann, et all, are big on glossy pics but short on content. They're basically 100 pages of Hot Rod type articles. I actually have Hartmann's book, and it's OK if you're curious about a particular project, but to "learn" about EFI, it's not the best.
