Hi all,

I'm building a circuit car for a client, and he has supplied a bare VVti 1Uz-fe for it. I've never dealt with this engine before, and am keen not to make any newbie mistakes with it.

I'm thinking custom extractors and individual throttlebodies at this stage, with an aftermarket ECU. Are there any traps I need to look out for?

Any advice would be appreciated,

Cheers.

Cams make a big difference. The stock car guys are using the VVti motors with great success. Ive done quite a few VVti motors now and the number increases all the time. They make heaps nicer power than the early ones. I have headers already done and also do it as a kit depending on the vehicle. Dont short cut on the ECU , I use link xtremes for the VVti's. What car and what gearbox are you wanting to use?

I was planning to start small and work up. We're building a mid-engined GT1 style sports car, 600kg odd, so don't want to get too serious on the power front till we get the handling nailed. My thinking is that if we go TB's and Link now, it'll look and sound right, give good torque and be reliable, and we can go cams later.

The stock intake is a nice part with dual length runners.
Inside there are 8 individual throttle plates to shorten the runners at engine speeds above 4000rpm.

If you want the TBs for the look that is one thing but the stock intake will give more low speed torque and likely be close to the TBs with peak power.

Keep the extractor/header tubes relatively small as this is only a 4.0 to 4.3 liter engine.

You make a good point JBrady. Being a track car rather than road driven though it will spend it's life up the top of it's rev range.

Two more questions spring to mind:

1 What is the safe max rpm for the stock bottom end?

2 Injectors. My experience with other Toyota motors tells me the injectors run at or very near to 100% duty cycle at max power on the standard engine, meaning bigger injectors if you need more power. Does this hold true with the 1UZ?
