Fan Pulley bracket to replace the fan oil pump - Update!

Yep, just like everyone else I fear. I'm in Western Sydney and want to give the fan oil pump bracket the boot.
My engine is a 1992 Celsior, though i'm led to believe it matters little.

Hi Nemesis,
just machine it off flat and run direct from the crank to the a/c pump or straight up to the top idler.

Nemesis,
I've been running mine like that for about 3000kms with no squealing what so ever (I used to run mine around the fan idler (about 5000km), but decided to try it without - much simpler)

Hi Peewee,
nah I banned the aircon, it was never going to be plumbed up anyway. Also the alternator now sits where the A/C compressor used to.

Can you get a photo of the belt layout Muzza, I'm surprised it doesn't slip to the sh*thouse.

I just deleted fan pump an made an alloy cover for it, used an 1825 belt I think ( it was to suit alfa/fiat ) it runs ac and ps an seems ok, also leaves more room for 14" thermo fan

Hi Peewee,
Will do - actually I'll get a pic of another conversion the same as mine as I've got a radiator in the way now (and won't be removing it again unless it all goes pear shaped!)

Incidentally, I used a 1650 belt (a 1630 would preload the tensioner better, but there wasn't one in town)

That seems the easiest. So you don't get any belt slippage or squeal?

have only finished this conversion for a mate last week but hasnt caused a prob yet, it has 33x12.5" tires and is 4x4 , power steer doesnt slip, that it loaded more than the other bits

Sounds a bit like my 4Runner. If it wasn't for my missus i'd probably just lose the A/C but I have to keep it. Just avoiding the fan pump looks easy, but it also looks like only about 30% wrap around the crank pulley.

Alternator is the biggest load, much bigger than power steer (unless you have no accessories on)
When my AU thermo's kick in, they draw about 100A starting current, but then draw 30A constant current.

Thought i'd dig this back up to say that I tried the shorter belt option. I simply bypassed the hydraulic pulley completely so the belt goes from crank to A/C then up.

Result: A month later and a couple of hidings off road with my Mickey Thompson Claws as low a 10psi and no evidence of slipping. No belt squeal, no problems charging or steering.... Too easy.

BTT - Anyone have a pic of the engine with the oil pump removed? Love to see what this looks like.

I was dismantling my oil pump to remove the guts and I trashed the pulley. Did any US spec 1UZFE engines have the idler instead of the oil pump?

Rod - yours isn't going back on? Mine looks alot like yours now... :veryhappy

I was curious to see the the accessory belt on with the pump missing. If it is just a matter of a shorter belt, I'm golden. I'm concerned that with the lesser amount of wrap based on the above posts, if I do a water crossing, might I run into an issue with the belt slipping too much?

I haven't really had any dramas. Sometimes if the belt gets wet it might squeel for a couple of seconds till it dries off a bit. I haven't noticed any slippage or squeel in general at all though. And I use the full rev range of the engine, even off road! :D

Cebby,

My idler bracket will go back on and I'll use it.

That engine in the photo is a dead one I have for mocking up parts.

Could you shoot a pic of the idler assembly so I know what I'm looking for? Here's a pic of the oil pump for those that don't know what we're talking about.
