I'm doing a 240z project. It will be regularly street-driven. Engineering standards in NSW allow for a maximum capacity of 4.0L with forced induction in this car.

I'm partial to V8s so the 1UZFE is a front-runner.

A TT setup would be badass but would also be difficult to setup and create more heat... and would only be worthwhile if I was shooting for higher power figures than what I am.

I think one of the quiet centrifugal blower setups on a 1UZ in this application would go well... I would also consider the positive displacement blowers due to kit availability but I don't think I would need the low to mid-range boost they provide in my lightweight application.

The alternative.

I'm also pondering the Ford inline 4.0L turbo six... advantages of it are that it's FI from the factory...

Anyone want to chime in?

the 1uz would be good, especially forced induction. the ford 6 would also be ok but wouldn't sound as good, and is probably a heavier engine. another option is the vq series v8's by nissan, if you wanted to keep it in the family. they came out 4.0, 4.3, and 4.5 (or 4.4?) i think. theres a mean twin turbo one on the net from japan thats had crazy money spent on it (twin turbo, 800hp, full titanium intercooler piping and exhaust, etc), so a setup similar to that would be good. it would be cool to see a 350z powered 240z, but you'd have to be an auto electrician to get it all to work, and forced induction would have a whole lot more headaches aswell.
conclusion: money permitting, drop a 1uz with forgies, big single turbo infront of the engine, 6 speed getrag, tilton triple plate clutch, gtr skyline rear end, and brembos all round, and run it off a motec or similar ecu. that would be awesome. good luck with the project.
