I sent an email to Endyn (www.theoldone.com) about their Roller Wave pistons for a 1UZ application. Here's the reply:

Hello.

I am interested in getting prices for custom pistons for a Toyota 1UZ-FE I will be purchasing the engine sometime in the summer/fall. Right now, this engine does not have a lot of aftermarket support. I’m interested in getting pistons with a 9.0:1 compression ratio, 87.5mm bore. I would probably want them .020 over, just so that I can account for machining, but other than that, everything else will be the same. At the time that I would need them, I would be able to send in a head and piston to sample, plus any other information you would require to make these. I was wondering what kind of pricing I could get for a set of 8 pistons. There would be other’s interested in this application as well. There’s a forum called www.lextreme.com, where we are fascinated with these engines, but there is no real aftermarket support for them. I’m sure you could get many orders for them from ratios of 8.5:1 – 10.5:1. Please let me know what you can do, and we can work something out from there. Thank you for your time.

We require a cylinder head (for 4-days), a stock piston that won't be returned, engine specifications (including deck height and head gasket thickness) to design custom pistons. Price is typically around $125.00 per piston.

So, we would be looking at $1000 for custom pistons. It's more than the Ross pistons were, from what I remember, but if we can get one of these manufacturers to produce a regular quantity, then we could get more modified lexus cars on the road. Let me know what you think.

New info:

With pistons up to 90mm, heat expansion clearance is 0.0035! From what I hear, it's 0.004 - 0.006 for most other forged pistons. Freaking awesome!

Also, I'm talking to him about a group purchase. He said that prices would come down "significantly" with the purchase of 10+ sets. I sent an email back asking how much more significant will the price drop. I'll let you know what I hear.

I contacted him about two years ago. I sent pistions, rods and head. Took them almost 6 months to get me the parts back and they said they couldnt do it. I have done this already and didnt work out. I heard from them that they use Wesco pistons and they add some TLC into it.

Yes,Rollerwaves are manufactured by Wiseco and hand-finished by Endyn.

Endyn designs the pistons, wiseco produces them, Endyn hand finishes the pistons.

wiseco is the number 1 piston manufacturer, some other brands actually have wiseco produce pistons for them but they sell them as their units since the pistons were produced to their design.
