Hi Guys,
I have an imported Singapore 1995 LS400 that appears to have free play in the drivetrain. When th vehicle is started it sounds like the engine/drivetrain is moving around. When you feather the accelerater off and on there is big noise that seems to come from the back end. I have had a mechanic look at it on a hoist and he stated that the driveshaft rubber doughnuts and the various suspension rubber bushes appeared okay. Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Gonzo

Try another one.

This to me seems to suggest 90% likely driveshaft, with an outside chance of diff problems.

Try another specialist in your area.

Thanks guys. - I have heard that damaged gearbox mounts may introduce all sorts of non-specific problems. Are after market driveshaft doughnuts or gearbox mounts available for a 1995 series 3 LS400?

Dunno.. doubt it. The gearbox mount should be easy enough to see if it's screwed... planetsoarer.com has good pictures. You should just be able to jack up the trans a bit and pull the crossmember and mount. When you get a price on the mount, check around (here, ALSC, CL), and see if you can get a better price... I suspect a local Lexus dealer will want $150+. Someone between NZ, Aus and the US will be able to hook you up a lot cheaper.

1995 LS400 Driveline Problems

The local LEXUS dealer now thinks that the problem may be the torque convertor or the engine management computer (transmission part)!
Has anyody had any experience in this area? Is there torque convertor information available?

Is it possible the tranny mount is bad and cause end play? Do u notice slippage during hard acceleration? Try to do a burn out. Left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas and see at what rpm you car start to more or to spin?
