I seem to be having problems with the coolant system on 92 SC400. Car has not been driven in about 4 months. Now when I run it a couple of blocks the temp goes really high, I have to park and let sit awhile then contniue home, also I noticed that when I turned on the heat, no hot air comes out. The radiator and coolant container are full, I've replaced the thermostat and it still gets hot? Any recommendations?

Turn heat to full, remove radiator cap, and start car (this is when its cold)

Let it idle until its up to full temp and water starts coming out of radiator cap.

There is probably just air in the system.

Don't forget to fill the engine with coolant not just the radiator. The coolant filling point for the engine is the 17mm bolt on top of the thermostat housing and will require a new aluminium washer to seal.

Thanks for the info. Worked great, but I only needed to open bolt on top of the thermostat, heard the air, tightened the bolt and now it indicates just below the normal line. Happy Holidays to All

oh? the red coolant is specifically for the alloy block? does anyone know where to buy more from in australia, just call toyota?

A few places stock it, but Toyota is the easiest.

Its around $45 for 4L, and you just mix 50:50 with distilled water.

thanks for that, i'm currently excising the 1uz out of my crown halfcut, and i will need to top up the coolant when i'm done. good to know the red coolant is there for a reason, would hate to ruin my shiny new v8.
