Hi Guys,we had a customer bring in a 1991 Toyota Soarer in for cambelt, tensinor, waterpump etc.We fitted all genuine parts and now when the engine starts and warms up a warning light appears on the dash in Japanese which translate to "engine electical fault"When our Auto-electricans plugged there Scanner in it came up with code 13"RPM Circuit" but does not say 1 or 2?
Now someone has been at the LH cam sensor wiring(white wire) before and spliced in to it and the wire runs down iinto the A/C pump wiring.I asked the customer who has had the car for 11 years and the only problem he had was a fault in the A/C system and was told that they
bi-passed some faulty unit in the A/C system.Apparently when they went to start it the engine would not fire(hence the wiring job I guess)but they fixed it.That was a few years ago and has not had a problem since until we did the cambelt.I have triple checked the cam timing and redone it and all the marks line up ever time.I have changed both cam sensors and crank sensors off my race motor as I know these are ok but know difference. It is very strange as it drives and perfoms fine but two times I noticed that it pinked its head off but when you turned it off and re started it it was ok.Also a couple of times it would start and run for about 5 seconds then stop, then you start it and it would do it again. If you left it for a couple of minutes it was fine. When it did this the scanner said there was no signal to the fuel pump after start up.Strange as it has only done this 2-3 times and not again and drove fine all weekend apart from warining light.
It seams to be once the engine warms up or the idle drops below 1000rpm the fault occurs. If you start the engine and hold rpm above 1000 no problems,so it seams to be like a voltage drop or am I missing something.
Any ideas?Cheers Leon

Are you sure the problem was not there before the cambelt and the owner didn't know? Where in NZ are you as I have a test ECU. Cheers Kelvin

Hi Kelvin, it does'nt appear to have been there before.I spoke to another auto electrican who has had a similar experience before so the owner is going to see him. Thanks for the offer and if no luck I will let you know as I am Chch I would gladly pay courier to and from if thats OK.Cheers Leon

i would check the coil/crank sensor/cam sensors/knock sensors with a voltmeter. there are several wiring clips you have to go through to replace the wp/tb and on a car that old the clips will be possibly cracked and definitely very brittle, I broke at least one of the buttons on the clips doing mine. Make sure no clips were damaged and all of the sensors are still functioning normally.
