Does anyone from NZ know if its legally required to have cats here in New Zealand.
Or can you take them out and put a reso in??

Has anyone proved a measurable increase in power from removing cats?

I think there is a missguided idea they rob engines of loads of power.

If your cats were robbing you of 5hp would you know?

If you leave your cats on my kids may be able to go to the beach without getting sun cancer from the hole in the Ozone you help develop by not using cats. As a KIWI you should be aware of the problem.

Due to the very low grade of fuel we get in NZ cats dont last very long, stuffed cats don't help anyone and seeing as they are not mandatory there is no incentive to replace them. I don't know if you can even buy new cats in NZ? anyone know?

i talked too a place down the road from me all's mufflers and they said that cats arent leggaly required yet in new zealand but they are trying to bring it in to play, bastards, i have just had myn removed and extractors put on but it takes near enough to 2 weeks so im still waiting to see the difference that it willl make and my car.

I read somewhere recently that at some stage next year the rules will require cars originally fitted with cats to keep them.

Not sure what they are going to do with the 'old car/new engine' & 'new car/old engine' senario's yet but they seem to follow the Aussies, so....!!!

We recently had the Victorian 'Chief Of Police' over here to give the LTSA some pointers....
I now see why they say that in Australia "Death, tax's and speeding tickets are inevitable'

when i take the cats out, will there be a error, will it change something and make the ecu give me a crappy error.
heard something about a sensor, or will that just make the exhaust temp light stay on all the time??
