I just got done pulling my head out of one of the 4 tuner mags that I subscribe to and there seems to be a growing trend growning in popularity in America to copy the Bippu ( a.k.a. VIP) style of cars. For those of you not formilliar, the Bippu style started in japan long ago and they favored cars that are luxury four door sedans of which our beloved LS400 falls into the catagory of. The question I found asking myself is that if this style should really take off whould this help or hurt our little niche. On one hand it might expand the after market which would deffenitaly be good but on the other hand will this cause a sky rocket in price of cars, engines, and half cuts beacause every body and their brother will want one. Just a little cynical brain storming and wanted to know what you guys thought.

It hasn't effected the small car front cut prices that much..
Skylines etc...

"VIP " is as stupid and tasteless as primered shogun combat street fighter II park bench body kits on civics

im not so sure you have the correct mental image of VIP baised on this post. its basicly the oppisite of cobat kits and park bench wings. everything on VIP cars are done with good taste and class at the top of the priority list. are you thinking of Bozu zoku? now thats some crazy looking ish.

and in reply to sparkys post. i dont really see how a new popularity could ever hurt. all those things that are wanted/needed for the small car markets have gotten better due to the popularity. take 204sx's and SR20 swaps. 10 years ago it was next to impossble to get a SR20 imported into the states. it was like pulling teeth to get one on a container and shipped over. let alone all the small items people who want SRs want as well like coilovers, front end conversions, diffs, engine upgrades. ect ect...
now it basicly takes a scan of ebay, or a call to an importing company. not really that big of a deal. and due to all the choice of companys to work with price has gotten competive. no not only has parts become easly available but the prices have droped conderably.

Jibby, of course I'm putting a 1uz in it. I'm may shoot for the sky and go twin turbos but this is my first full build up so i'm pobably going to play it by ear with the twins. Fabricating isn't the part that scares me ( I'm an aerospace welder) its the electronics that make me shart my pants a little.

So which came first, "bippu" in Japan or the "low-rider" in LA?

Looks like nearly the same thing?

Man that Lexus is riding really low to the ground...I would hate to roll that up and down driveways...Nice looking though...

Spark - Love the idea of 1uz-fe swapped into an FJ40...I did three SBC's engine swaps n my older 74 Cruiser that I owned years back... Power steering and disc brake swap as well....I swapped in a 283, 327, and 350ci Chevy's.......I also use to break and twist the transfer case and tranny gearing with only 300hp and 350 torque on that Cruiser... I would think twice about running turbo's on the 1uz-fe while using the stock drivetrain... What transfer case and transmission will you be mated with?

I am big fan of the FJ40's as my brother still has a showroom 74 collecting dust in the garage.. We have always had one in the family...

Hey Jibby, here is my plan of attack for the LC. I picked up a R150f 5 speed out of a 96 4runner and I'm going to run the marlin crawler toybox adapter to my stock 3 speed transfer case. I tossed around the idea of going with the stock 5 speed transfer case with an Fj80 axle out back but my fundage is constantly in short supply so I'm trying to use what I got. Oh and by the way I think most of these Bippu guys are running air bags so at the flip of a switch the driveway problem is no more

Spark - The 5 speed R150 tranny should be alot more freeway friendly compared to your stock 3 speed. However, you may lose some torque with that swap..Who cares though with a 1uz..sitting under the hood....

The problem with all my swaps in my 74 LC was I kept the stock tranny and transfer case on the swaps. So I would have all this power and torque but would redline the motors in top gear at 60mph... So a five speed would be a great call... I take it you will be swapping in the FJ80 rearend with differential lock up option? I know some FJ80's are equiped with the dif. lockup capabilities and some are not...

Those Lexus are on Air suspension. So when they park they can lowered their car real low. I love Bippu style. I hope its going to be a big trend. But the biggest problem is the money for those body kits and upgrade. They are very expensive. I have a VIP style LS4 myself and I love it. Getting good attention every where I go. For those of you who think its Ricey then thats your personal taste. But to me that is one expensive Rice  .
