For sure a huge loss to the racing fraternity and Oz, and another '60's racing icon gone. At least he went doing something that he was well known for and loved to do, and driving the car that he created.

The story I read mentioned that he crashed in his silver Daytona coupe. I'm assuming this was one of his new Superformance Daytona replicas, and not one of the six originals?

Pete was driving the replica.

I knew from when I raced against him in the 1970's.

We met a few tims over the years and he was just a true gentleman.

Nicest guy you could meet.

Sure ruined my day.

He was and still is my hero and role model.

Hi cribbj

There are actually two Peter Brocks. One is the Peter Brock who in conjuction with Carrol Shelby designed and built the original Daytona in the States and the other Peter Brock is an Australian racing legend who during the late 60's, 70's and 80's virtually dominated the Aussie touring car championship. Winning the great race at Bathurst 9 times and numerous Touring car championships.

Its ironic that Peter Brock died is a car that was designed by his name sake.

I for one was devastated when I heard the news yesterday. He will be sorely missed.

Its a shame to see such a legend die, will be going to the mountain this year and should be a very special day,and glad i will be a part of it. R.I.P Brockie.

"Peter Perfect" A gentleman that will be missed. I too have had the honour of meeting and working with Peter Brock over the last few years. A man with an amazing memory for detail and interested in your life.

If you have ever seen anything or had anything signed by Peter the chances are that it will say somthing like "live your dreams" or "Life is what you make it"

Legends never die.

unfortnately for me, i was 200m from the crash scene - 200m away fromm both turn 15 (brock's corner) and the chicanes at turn 16 (my team).

i'll always remember running past what was left of his driver's door and seeing his white face and lifeless body, his right hand still on the steering wheel.

the CG "runthru" of the event that was broadcast was completely at odds to what the eyewitnesses were telling me. according to them, the brakes didn't lock up, he entered the corner WAY too fast and did a very fast, complete spin on the bitumen before his back end hit the gravel, slid out and slammed driver's door first into the tree, lifting about half a metre up in the air and coming to rest 180° later. apparently he was sideways (WRCar style) before he even tipped it in.

i will be questioning John over why this "alternative" view of events was portrayed instead of the real truth tonight at the buurswood de-briefing.

it was the most SICKENING bang and crunch all at once - no screeching locked tyres giving warning, just the sounds of tyres on gravel, the crunch and the echo across the hills.

then just complete silence. nothing. absolutely nothing.

it was so surreal. certainly something i'll never forget in this lifetime.

First the Crock hunter goes out and now Peter....What is going on over there in Australia? Not good......Hopefully the next major Aussie news will be good news...

Here in the States Aussie born actor Mel Gibson was caught Drunk Driving near my part of town and was arrested then was caught on camera saying racial slurs against Jews.....Not good PR for a proclaimed Christian and also not a good business move when seeking out future movie rolls being that the movie industry is prodominately owned and run by Jewish people......

A tough couple of weeks or so for you Aussie boys...Cheer up mates times will get better.........
