92 sc400 shiftlock question

I just replaced the shifter handle and shift lock solenoid on my dads 92 sc400 and the shift lock still isnt working right. I checked all connections and everything looks ok but still not working. What else can I check to get it working right?

What is the symptom and how does it work now?

the symptom is that when i put my foot on the brake and try to shift from park, it doesnt work without pushing the shiftlock override button and it does the same thing after i changed the shifter handle and the shift lock solenoid

Check you don't have a blown fuse in the brake light circuit.

When the brake lights come on it powers the shift lock solenoid allowing you to move from park.

I'll check that fuse later but it works sparatically

That's funny, mine does the oppisite. It will not lock and allow the key to fully turn off to remove. These are some tempermental cars.

yeh they def are, 1 of the techs at work said that possibility the solenoid isnt aligned correctly so causing it to jam, guess the center console is coming out again
