My 92 SC400 (1/4 million miles) recently started acting up at exactly the moment the engine reached warm-up. AFM code showed up with O2 sensor code, swapped out with no change and continued TRAC OFF + Check Engine lights. Strangely the car passed emission test for tag renewal!
While replacing EGR, noticed that passages in mounting plate and manifold holes were completely blocked with carbon.
My question: if the thermostat opening is supposed to activate the EGR, and the valve works, but the exaust gas can't make it into the intake, will this confuse the ECU and cause perfomance/mileage issues?
I'm thinking that since the passages are completely plugged, I don't need to plate off the manifold to take the EGR out of the equation, just need info on the resistor used in the kit to turn off the dash lights.
Any thoughts?
