Hey guys, my first post here. Came across a good deal and am planning to swap it in my 1st gen Cressida. Starting my research now.

Motor is out of a 4x4 Tundra, so I will be looking for a 2wd trans and a different diff. I was told that I can reuse the ecu/harness even if I changed out the transmission since there's a transmission computer. So is it true that I can reuse the engine harness and ecu?

Also, what diff would you guys recommend?

Any other ideas/suggestion/comments would be appreciated.

check to see if ecu has security
if it does u will need to have it all connected
what trans r u going to use
if u want to run auto it will be electronic so u need a way to control it
if u r not using the 2uz one

if it has security, you can get a federal ecu and switch the ignitor wires to make it work.

I was thinking of using the tranny out of the 2wd tundra. Planning to keep this swap auto, any suggestion on the tranny and diff I should use?

i read that post and thats for early 1uzs which some have similar plugs
not sure what u mean by federal ecu
but around 2000 the ecu plugs changed to smaller pins and different plugs
so he would have to change the 05 2uz immobilised ecu with a similar model but no immobiliser if there is such a thing
is the federal ecu around 04 05 2uz model?

the federal thing is for vehicles in states w/o smog so the only emissions requirements that the ecu is setup for is for the federal mandated equiptment.
but, a lot of the jdm stuff has the same or similar wiring but without the security stuff. Probably because the auto theft rate in japan is so low....

the japanese ecus started having security around 2000 ish
as i thought usa brought in rules where no cars can be imported into usa without immobiliser or obd2 diagnostics somewhere around 05 ish

but not all of the japanese ecu's have security. I think it's probably an option over there.
