G'day all!

I fired up my Eh yesterday - wired up the EMS8860 Ecu and it worked - first try! Scared the sh*t out of me as it's just running a dual 2.5" system to the cats - however not as noisy as you would think. The 8860 was easy to wire up and the software was is intuitive to use. I have a WBO2 dual Oxygen Sensor 3h1 computer with lovely dual display which feeds a pair of accurate signals into the ecu and a nice round La1 display showing both o2 sensors seperately plus an average, all at the same time. These are made up by a guy called Peter who lives near me in Canberra and exports worldwide - http://wbo2.com/home/products.htm. Top system which is twice as good as the Innovate Lc1!

Next step to start tidying up all the wiring, fit the rest of the exhaust, brakes and fuel lines and then pull it apart to paint it. Lastly - engineering for NSW registration.

Eh fired up

Thanks Justen. Started on fuel, no gas yet, my research found that I need to spend about $6000 to setup a 'good' gas injection system to develop the power, so I'm concentrating on getting the car built, painted and registered, fitting the gas system later.

Any hints on where I get aluminium fuel line, I want to run a bigger line than standard?

Cheers
Eddy

Fuel line

On past cars i have just used copper line Ed but on the GT8 i used -10 braided hose.....much easier to run than bundy tube

I wasn't sure if you were still allowed to use copper line, but sounds good! Does that mean I can just run the 1/2" plumbing copper line - it's pretty easy to shape and will have excellent flow - I'm using a genuine Bosch 044 which is rated at up to 300lph and 72psi.

great job there edz! don't forget to post up a video on that beast.. i'm planning on getting the 8860 for my sc400/soarer in the near future.. good to know it was easy to install. hope you can guide me later on when i install mine.. :yup:

I found 3m lengths of 10mm (8mm id) aluminium at Bunnings for $10, good for a fuel line.

ems 8860 on 1UZ

btw edz, are you going on COP setup? what setting are you using on the number of igniters? if on 2, does this cause wasted spark?

Happy to give you advice - found Peter at Ems in Sydney a great help.
No COP, just sequential injection and and full spark (not wasted), the 8860 handles the standard Totyota coils, igniters, sensors, ISC etc. Pretty cool. And lots of spare inputs and outputs, plus can shut your engine down if your preset parameters go out of range ie: drop in oil pressure, heat etc.

EH 1UZ TT - Video of startup

Ok, started it up with new dual 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust - gee the turbo's knock the noise off! Here's a short Vid - only ran it for a very short time as still way too lean - using a crappy efi fuel pump and standard 220cc crown injectors - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6fW9SGzExc

I built the exhaust myself after the exhaust guy wanted $2k but wouldn't do it in 2.5" because it would 'be to tight' - what he meant when I questioned him was 'too much work'. Oh well, 4 days work and $550 of parts and one system! I got onto a contact on the net who supplies exhaust shops (wholesale) and found a contact at a new local exhaust shop who'd sell me the mufflers and pipe cheap. My system has a cat and a straight through muffler on each side only and I'm surprised how quiet it is. I used thicker wall pipe which also helps reduce the 'tinniness'.

Now to run the 10mm fuel lines, brake lines and then pull it all aprt to paint the body and put it together - then engineering and rego!

8860 Autotune feature

Quote - 'There was a version of the 8860 program manager that had autotune. You set the target a/f ratio and as you drive it adds or subtracts fuel to the correct fuel cell to get the a/f and the fuel map correct. It was very nice but occasionally got carried away if the O2 sensor would read incorrect (rich missfire, overlap, etc) It dissapeared and EMS said nothing about it and tune analizer appeared in its place. '

Read this post to read the rest - it explains it all. http://www.enginemanagement.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1058

I have a copy of the old software uploaed here - http://edzoldholden.250free.com/links.htm - scroll to the last link and you’ll see it. Just remember that the newer versions have extra features and bug fixes in them so use it at your own risk.

I'm not at the stage to use it yet as when I fired up I only used an old efi fuel I had lying around and with the 220cc injectors the af was showing 18 -so I shut down pretty quick. In a couple of weeks I'll let you know how it works.

The EMS Forum has lot's of useful help and base maps links.

If you want a fabulous tuning aid, get a Wbo2 unit, I did. About $900AU but it comes with 2 generic 7200 5 wire bosch oxygen sensors that are only $90 ea to replace if you kill them - against about $300 for standalone sensors (which also die) and a lot more accurate. It blitz's the innovate LC-1 for features and accuracy and also has data logging functions so you can use it on factory cars that you have modified. It can also output to both a display and a laptop at the same time - I have the http://wbo2.com/3h1/default.htm

Cheers

thanks edz, this would really help me latter on since there is no dyno machines near by, and anybody to tune the ems.. i would have to learn and do it myself.. thanks man...
