I started on making a new flywheel tonight at work. I had bought 2 tilton flywheels lightly used from a nascar re builder that I get some parts from on occasion. I had been meaning to use them for mesurements to make a compatible fly wheel up for the 1UZ-FE and 1GZ-FE. One of the things the machine shop I work at makes is gear reduction units. Some of witch are VERY large. The shafts for our larger units are made from stainless steel, Titanium and 4140. When the input shafts are turned they wind up with a slug at one end that gets cut off and scraped. These are solid and between 4" and 10" long and 6" and 28" in diameter. SS and Ti have there own scrap bins but 4140 just get dumped into the "crap" bin. I can get it for .25 cents a pound. I am planing on just bolting the new flywheel through the stock flex plate but I might try making a larger diameter one and pressing the ring gear on. Would any one be interested In one of these things? The time it takes to build the set ups and fixtures and make one vs. 5 or so is not that much worse. I was kinda planning to make 2 and cut like 4 spare blanks for my self. I may also be able to get a guy at my old shop to wire EDM out the 23 spline hubs for the clutch disks to use with the R154.
So would there be any one interested If I made a few extra flywheels? aproximit price would be $150 for a 9" OD for tilton 7.25" tripple disk, and around $200 for one with 11" OD and a step cut for you to press a ring gear onto.
