VVTi UZ into 1st Gen SC400 Project

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
Its mostly for show right now, the steel spacers were not used under the STB so its a little low. honestly in the future I might tinker with a 2nd set of OEM mounts and cut/weld them so I can drop the motor down another 1/2" to 1" to lower the center of gravity but 1st things 1st, I need to get it running ;).

I always like front TB. It looks sexy.

Yeah it does right? My friend kept saying it looks like an LS1 manifold. Just staring at it made me really want to run the intake straight into the front bumper opening just because it would have such a great ram-air effect.

Got any old Honda rads I can try out Steve?

Its cool, I plan to run the intake down on a 45 degree angle into the pass. side bumper opening. If anything i'll upgrade the radiator just to save some more weight lol.

Does anyone know whewre I can get a maf adapter for the 95+ sensor? I have a pile of aluminum piping to make the intake.

Just discovered a nice benefit to using the 1992 SC400 chassis. The 98 has the best 0-60 time of 6.2sec and it has the most tame final drive of 3.26, whereas the 1992 has stock 3.92 final drive. I think with the extra ratio of the 5-speed , cruising at 70 mph should keep mpg pretty reasonable. I hope it will shave a couple tenths off the 0-60 for around 6 flat, or with my TC + exhaust + weight reduction, mid 5 second (i'm hoping).

Aftermarket potential & options:

Those 0-60 times are hard to get. You must have a perfect launch with perfect tires to achieve them. Factories always seem to overrate their cars.

Your right, for a true 6.2 second launch I would most definently need to brake boost off the line. Gotta remember the final drive boost im getting as well and it has a 2800 stall lextreme torque convertor so I expect a 1/2 second shave with that and consider the 250lb of dead weight I yanked out, mid 5's seem possible.

I must admit i'm a little nervous about the loud factor this car will put out but half of me really wants a nasty/obnoxious Lex :).

I have ran many sub 6 second 0-60 runs. Basically stock 1999 vvti, 3.266 gear diff, stock 5 speed auto, only mod is 5hp air filter box mod.

And your driving a heavier car with taller gears so overall I guess I cant wait until I can drive this thing. I need a 99 sc shifter assembly + intermediate d-shaft reeaaaal bad. Only parts holding me back from driving it. I have a throttle cable in the mail so once thats installed and I can try firing it up for the first time.

I have the TT auto LSD 3.76 diff. This is the difference. 80mph 3.26 = 2850rpm 80mph 3.76 =3250 used to get 21 hwy mpg after 3.76 got 19 mpg. 1.3uz,s&s,LEX tq converter, on road trip last weekend got 22.5 @ 80mph & A/C blowin. I think s&s gave me my gas back. Oh and one more thing. 3.76 top speed =128 before it hits the speed limiter, cause the car & tranny are talking. Its says 5500 In 5th gear = 155 shut it down. The speedo gets its info from the ABS system. So changing gears is no prob, but kills topend mph. Another kid here in tx has 98sc400 w/4.27 LSD. I think thats too much but 120 for him on the top speed. So if your 92 chasse works the same as 98-00 you should be in between both of these numbers.

Thanks for the heads up. If the signal from the OEM speed sensor is analog, with a basic 5v range signal I think an inline resistor can solve this.

It would be great if you could post any additional driving impressions. Seems like the 4.3 torque curve is much meatier on the 430 cars.

Yours may actually have a quicker 0-60 with stock 3.266 gears than your current 3.769 due to the extra shift before 60.

If this is the case it will make several people happy.

Yes this would make me very happy. Ive never owned a car that would redline top gear. I know my car will do it but, its being held back. Im not very good with volt meters & figuring that part of electrical stuff. I need someone else to ginne pig this one.

You might be right on that note. I do know this. That crappy a$$ shift between 1 & 2 is the worst. There is only 1000 rpm difference between them, & that thing is trying so hard to make a nice "Lexus comfort" shift that it seems like it's smoking the clutch on a standard tranny, & then it finally grabs & you got like 300 rpm's b4 it goes to 3rd. This occurance gets worse w/the lower gears, & more hp mods. I wish I had the money for a valve body upgrade. That big slippage, is killin drag times.

Im hoping to dyno this weekend @ mvp's dyno day, but they may not let the old SC430, join in, in any raindeer games. LOL I might have to throw out the wheelchair card.

Sean,

Your P.M. still doesn't work, and I'm too lazy to type it the 3rd time.

I currently don't know anyone selling the LSD. But you can check on Ebay. That's where I bought mine. It's an OEM Torsen for auto Supra TT, so it works like 1.5 way. Make sure you get the correct LSD for your car. I initially bought a wrong one for the 6 speed that has a lower ratio, so I ended trading it for a loss. Then I bought the auto LSD. You can also check on www.supraforums.com. They have it sometime.

You dont really need a full valve body overhaul, just increased line pressure or less accumulator "volume". The older 4 speed autos have a kickdown cable that manually sets the mainline pressure but the 5 speed auto does not have this nifty feature, and its controlled electronically. I dont have any links but I know tutorials exist on how to modify your accumulators. The Lexus transmissions have very smooth shifts and this is done by forcing fluid that engages the next gear to "fill" an open void to delay the shift. I hear its basically a few shims/washers added inside these accumulators to "lessen" the fluid volume so your shift lag is less due to less volume to fill. Long lazy shifts w/ some decent hp will cause the clutches to heat up from the long engagement and they heat up and fail real quick. I too am looking for a full tutorial on this mod, once my car is running of course :D
