How can I distinguish between the W55 and W58 ???

Because the dealer's over here don't know what is the difference !! just they know the engine matching this box .

What the engine's come with W58 and so on ?? ​

I think the W58 was on 7MGTE engines and some 2JZGE USDM not sure but the number most be written somewhere on they tranny case .

W55 and W58 have different gear ratios, 7MGTE came with the R154 transmission.

For sure the USDM MKIV Supras with 2JZ-GE (non turbo) motor used the W58 for their manual tranny.

My '97 Supra was an NA setup with this box in a previous life. Nice, crisp shifting 5spd, but not too strong.

Its good that Toyota had so many variations around the world, gives us a lot of opportunities to mix and match. I fitted a lot of the W series trans to my customer cars here in the UK in the early 80’s some behind small block Chevy’s with out any real drama, one box did fail after 10 years use, nothing is forever………..

USDM 7MGTE came with W58 i dont know for eslewhere in the world

USDM 7M-GTE's only came either auto or R154
USDM 7M-GE's only came either auto or W58
USDM 2JZ-GTE's came auto or V160/161
USDM 2JZ-GE's came auto or W58

Yes, I agree with you. I think that was worldwide, but I not positive though. I do know that that was USDM's
