Hi. I am new here and searching my way around. I am interested in the 1990-1997 LS 400s and was considering a higher mileage one in great shape.

Has anyone swapped a stock (lower milage) 4.7 block on their 1 UZFE heads etc? If so, what supporting items are needed and if I wanted to do headers and cams (Lextreme) I am assuming these are a shoe in because they are on the 1UZ heads? Any timing issues with block and timing gear?

If anyone could point me to links I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome once again. The link above pretty much have all the info. Good luck and let us know our progress.

Hello George, & welcome; the swap you're speaking about is similar to one that David (Lextreme) is doing now, and he has it running in his car in NA trim. His plans are to twin turbo it.

Here's his writeup: http://www.lextreme.com/1uzfe.html

Thanks Guys. I saw that link and that bottom end and well the whole engine is FAR from a stock 4.7. Although very impressive, and i would consider such a build, depending upon how cheap the initial car purchase is. Or is a wiser option going for another lower mileage 4.0 and doing a supercharger?

I was leaning towards finding a salvage Tundra motor, ripping the heads off and inserting the block under the 1UZ heads. Doing some bolt ons, headers, cams, intake, AFC tune etc. I know this is on the cheap-but durability wise, if kept NA would this be a feasible build. David's is bullet proof I am sure but I haven't resigned myself to spending quite that much on the motor yet.

Well,

I guess you can put in the 4.7L into your Lexus 4.0 heads but it would not be very good due to different pistons face configuration. From this plain swap, you might experience lots combustion chamber/pre ignition issues. From those events your conrods might not able to handle it and will destroy your block.

Thank you. The easiest answer is sometimes the simplest. Looks like I might be interested in a built block...know anyone who does this? :flowers1:

Well,

I have done it and it is running very good. I have almost living proof 5,000 miles on it with zero problem. Since my engine was build for FI so my ring clearance are little loose so I loose some oil but that is ok for my application. The engine mounts and all other parts are flawless. I really try to drive this car as much as I can to break in the motor.

Here is its... Enjoy http://www.lextreme.com/Lexus-4.7L-Tundra-swap.html

So a high compression NA build would be even nastier than those numbers and videos you sent me. I'll be in touch..:)

For NA I dont think you need to change the rods but pistons is a must. However, I have seen some 2UZFE rods broke even with stock hp, so its a good insurance.

im trying to remember off the top of my head. you cant switch the pistons between the 1uz and 2uz to avoid the valve problem, no?
