I've read about everything on mods to do on the toyota auto box, From shimming the accumelators to increasing the line pressure. Some say to even adjust the kickdown cable a lot tighter as this increases the line pressure too.

Doing this on the A340E they say it's a bit uncomfortable when it's done when driving at low speeds, but the A341E has a soft shift solenoid that works at low speeds, do you think the soft shift will improve the "problem" at lower speeds. Making it more enjoyable to drive around town, but very hard and firm at WOT.

I did the shim thing on my trans (89 crown half cut, Not sure what model box it is) and also upped the line pressure.

I used 8mm shims on 1st and 2nd, and 2mm on the regulator for the line pressure

The gear shifts are heaps faster (but still don't chirp the tyres), If you nail it from a stand still mine will spin the tyres up to 3rd gear in a straight line where before it would lose power from 1st to 2nd and gain traction.

It IS uncomfortable at low speed's (as in 25kmh), it does jurk from 1st to 2nd. But it's worth it for the quick changes when you floor it

I must also say I have a conversion, and my car only weighs 1150kg with me in it.

So that will make a difference to the outcome. engine is 100% stock

Same here, My V8 is in a 180sx, I'm going to turbo it very soon, that's why I want to mod the box before I do it, the plan is to fit a TH400 but that will happen once the "build" motor goes in

For the time, effort and cost it has by far been the best mod I can think of for the $$$.

A member of this forum made up the bit's needed, and I installed them while the box was still in the car by myself,

There was a post around somewhere with pictures witch made it easer for a 1st timer like me, It would be 10x easer if the box was upside down and out of the car

note: I did smell like used tranny oil for at least a week
