Hi I am new to the forum. I have a SC400 that I got about 3 years back. It really looks great, but has been running so so lately. It will start run, and then the check engine light will go on and then it stalls out. The car has very little power, yet makes no abnormal noises other it sounds like a muffled back fire through the intake sometimes when the car is turned off. I pulled the service codes from the computer. They were 41 and 12. I am wondering if the engine might have slipped out of time? This car has about 270,000 miles on it mostly freeway and looks great. I would like to keep it to 400,000.
What other problems could this be, plug wires?
Plugged Catalytic Converter>?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

SC Stalls out

Hi,
I got your Message. I recently changed the spark plug wires and the (+) wire to the battery and the car seems to run fine.
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Death Blow,
If you have high miles I would also change the charging wire that runs from the Fuse Block to the Battery. It is one of the positive wires. It is a really problematic issue with any older higher mile car. I have noticed that on most Japanese cars the charging wire in this circuit is a very underdesigned feature. Well, just food for thought. The charging of the battery for mine wasn't effected till after about 170,000 miles. I am going to drive mine till the engine falls out the bottom. It has about 273,000 miles on it.
Sincerely,
