Newbie, my first post

Glad to be here with other experienced Lexus owners. a week ago I purchased a 91 LS 400. Had it tuned up and the timing belt was replaced 10,000 miles ago. Car runs strong. I had smoke coming out the tail pipe and I was told the car was running rich. Went to a Lexus shop and the guy said it was the valve seals and need to replace the engine for $5000.00. Didnt make sense, the engine runs very strong and the pickup is great. Well I also have a power sterring problem, fluid was leaking just a bit, but most of it was disappearing. My normal mechanic had me come down to his shop and told me the problem. The vacumn module on the power sterring pump was sucking fluid into the engine. Thus my reasoning for joing a site like this, to learn and share information.

that sounds correct, it's a common problem for 1st gens. The smoke was PS fluid burning up, and your engine should be fine now that you've gotten the ACV fixed.

The guy at the Lexus Shop was blowing smoke up your ass, even if your engine was toast $5000 is far too high to get another engine in your car.

You can buy another 1991 LS400 with $5000. Now why are Lexus specialty shop trying to rip you off? Because u drive a Lexus therefore you have money to burn. LOL Tell them go and eat an egg and tell them its the PS vacuum line.....LOL

Thanks fellas. It was a shop in Lawndale Lex called Fentons. He first said I needed a headjob, but then my compression would be wrong. So I still would need an engine. Other than rims and tires, I plan on adding a few performance mods, and thats about it. Thanks for the input.

Fix the Power Steering and drive it.

Then see what develops.
