I need some help on this link ecu wiring

The crank sensor and cam trigger cables are black and grey sheiled cables

In the inside of these cables there are 2 conductors and a shield the link manual says to use one of the conductors and the shield ? whats the other conductor for ?

Is this right anyone ?

You wire up both internal wires to the sensor, and then solidly mount the sheild to ground on the engine somewhere close to the sensor and the same at the ECU end.

Thats at odds with the instructions from Link Russ they say only earth the cable atthe ecu end in caseitsets up an earth loop

Just starting to wire up your little box of tricks as well

yes i have heard that before shielding wires should only be earthed at one end

if u look at factory nissan looms they are earth at ecu end

never at dizzy sensor or o2 sensor

hey kdog i sold the tranny changer to the guy while i was working in perth

gave him instructions and he seemed happy

havnt heard if he has fitted it yet

hope to get time to fit it to my car soon :)

Sideshow your are right , the sheilding should be only earthed at one end, the ECU end. With both ends earthed you will get earth loops.

the 2 wires should just be an earth and a signal wire

does the book say which one is pos or neg signal

thats the only pain in the ass with some of these aftermaket ecus

they dont have proper instructions for people who dont do this often

i try to stay away from most aftermaket ecus except for microtechs and autronic
as these are what im most experienced in

if people want to pay the money ill fit the others

95 % of the wiring is all the same but its the small bits that can get confusing

even autronic has bad helpdesk

that y i would rather do a microtech over anything else
they supply a wiring diagram to suit yr engine
u cant go wrong

if u get stuck just ring link but maybe just try connecting the 2 wires to the 2 wires on the cam sensor

I would use the sensor as a differential signal, hook up both wires. This is if you can. What do the wires do at the ECU end?
Do they both go into the ECU or does one loop off to a ground wire? If so then you know which wire to use for signal.

What is best for the sheild comes down to your car, sometimes one end will work better than the other, sometimes both ends will be the way to go.
