Thanks to JamesN and his crew. They drop off his SC400 1UZFE motor to my house this evening. Of course James is getting a 2JZGTE in his SC400 or SC300 now. Anyhow, 10 thumbs up for James and his crew. Here is some pictures of the Lexus 1UZFE with Chevy TH400 (Also known as LEVY). The TC is not done yet, but i will post more pictures once the custom torque converter arrive. The UZ/TH is very close and only an adaptor plate is require. The TH400 input shaft is massive.

Looks good, very neat looking fit, these box are very popular in Australia, some of them iv heard to take 1000 HP +,not bad for a cheap box..

The TH400 i paid $125 for it. I will get a performance rebuild kit for about $200 and labor for rebuilding is about $300. I will be making the adapter plate very soon.

If it is ok to ask, what method are you going to use to measure the adapter plate? More specific, how are you going to find true horixontal axis between the motor and the tranny, along with the center and 0 point? Not bashing, because I think it's a great idea, just curious.

Lex,

Remember you need the box centered to less than 10thou which is a fairly fine tolerance with a big heavy gearbox.

You can get the bolt patern and centre off the net for the TH400. I found it some time ago but don't ask where.

Good job David. Glad I can help you get your project on the way. I can't wait for more things to come. Let me know if you need anything.

Rod,
I will be using the UZ/TH (I call it LEVY400) torque converter as my guide. The TC bolt right on to the flexplate and it goes right into the input shaft of the TH400 tranny. With the TC in place, then i can align the tranny according to the TC. From that i would know the space between the engine and tranny. Adaptor plate thickness will be determine at that time.

That's one method to finding the overall thickness, and will probably work. More important is the X and Y orientation of the tranny as it relates to the motor. It's imperative to find the common 0 point for both motor and tranny, the horizontal plane, and the true center. If they're off by as much as .0010" the results could be devastating, by which I mean worst case pieces coming loose and taking legs with it. It's important to look into all options in measuring something like that. Calipers won't give you an accurate enough measurement all around, and outside contractors have to be called in. On top of that, the machine shop will need to verify that their machines are accurate to 1/1000th of an inch over the course of 25 inches. MANY machines in the industry today, are not.

There was an article in HOTROD magazine several years ago of a red car that looked like an airplane with wheels. Anyway this car had a 1uzfe and a GM trans (I think it was a th400). I THINK the guys name was Gary Larkin of Larkin Engineering somewhere in California.

Man That sounds like Lextreme right there..!LOL..I think the thing about these Boxes,is that they appear to be good value items, for not too much outlay to performance ratio..thats what I thought what these conversions are all about,Value....After all unlimited $$ to spend is not an option for me ATM..lol

The car by Wally Larson is called the LE1 Groundfighter. It has a 1UZ with a Lysholm supercharger producing 50psi boost. Fuel is a cocktail of methanol & nitromethane, and output is estimated at 2000 HP. The tranny is a Ford C4, and the diff is from a Corvette. He built the car with a number of aviation parts, including an F16 windshield/canopy he bought from the Air Force.
Here's a pic:

Got some pictures on the LEVY400 TC. The LEVY400 TC fits perfectly into the TH400 as well as the bolt pattern with the stock flexplate. Here are some pictures along with side by side picture of the stock LS400 and LEVY400.

Sorry for bring up such a old tread, these converters, are they still available and can they be made with higher stalls. If so, what are their price now and do you export.

Thanks

Please pm me with TC info..... Basically we have to use two different cores to make it. The front will be Lexus and rear portion will be Chevy 350. Besides the parts there are lots engineering to make it work.
