Hi, I am a new member on the forum.
I am in the process of having my 1998 Hilux pick-up's engine replaced with a 3UZ-FE. I would like to know which gearbox will be best to fit, 5 or 6 speed and what should the correct ratio of the diff be? The current diff ratio is 4.875. Thanks

3uz-fe should have its stock ecu, stock loom and stock a/t
different a/t will not work
the 650 is considered more reliable but also consider aging

correct diff for 5spd a/t is ~3.3 and 3.6 for 6a/t
truck will require slightly higher diff ratio to compensate weight and wheel size

Really? I was under the impression from the transmission places that the a650e was actually weaker and had sprag problems on 2-3 shift as well as weaker clutches in 3rd and glass clutches in 5th gear. Supposedly a built a340e is always stronger than a built a650e. However, I am sure you probably have more first hand knowledge with these.....but I know for a fact the 2jz guys have lots of problems with a650e

3UZ never came with 4 speed trans
Older ones have A650
Newer ones will come with A761
Sorry, that makes sense....you were comparing the a650e to the newer a761....not the older a340e/a341e that came in supra/sc300/sc400/ls400
