Help wanted. I had a 1UZ fitted to my 1984 Fj60 Sahara. All was going well and is still going well but I am now getting a very strong smell of petrol fumes in the cabin.
A Long Ranger fuel tank was also fitted and this tank was built with the surge tank for a fuel injection system.
All was well for the first several months and five thousand kilometers, but now the fumes make it to smelly to drive.
There do not appear to be any leaks in the system, all the conections and pipe work appears to be dry.
Is there a return relay or valve that could be malfuntioning or could it be the carbon canister {1984} that needs replacing? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Double check all fuel lines, test the gas tank for leaks if possible, check for fuel rail leaks, fuel pump, fuel filter, basically the entire fuel system and connections it got to be there somewhere........

Obviously, you have a fuel leak and it could be a very small one that is hard to detect... Try and locate approx. where the leak smell is coming from and center in on that area....Sense of smell is key in finding fuel leaks...

Good luck...

Thanks Jibby I'll try that. The smell seems to be from the right rear where the return and breather lines meet. No smell under the hood.
Does the fuel return to the tank at the same presure as it is being pumped to the injectors at? Is there a fuel flow diagram available showing me the workings of the fuel system. Something like a wiring diagram???? Thanks.
