hey guys hows it going. i have a quick questions for the experts out there. I recently had my catalyctic converters punched out by my exhaust shop because they had collapsed. the exhaust guy replaced the insides of the cat with a straight pipe but now i seem to get this tingy noise from the exhaust when i rev the car and its really irritating me. any advice on how to get rid of it. thanks

The cats are pretty high flow already. Did he change anything else? If you dont like the noise u can always get a set of used cats and install it.

My advice is don't get caught. The fines for yourself having fake cats like that will be far greater than the value of the car, and could cost him his business also. I can't believe an exhaust shop would do that.....

You can buy high flow stainless 3" Cats on eBay now for about $140. My advice is to put one back in there....

Cant you take the cats out if you put a resignator in the exhaust??
Myn were completely munted and i have taken them and just added a reso to the center of my exhaust and got new extractors plumbed back into the exhaust system.

If you have a post 1986 car, (and its not diesel) it legally HAS to have cats.

No way about it.

If you put a post 1986 motor in an older car, you HAVE to put cats on it (Not 100% about pre 1975 vehicles. I think there is a cut of there somewhere)


And I too can't beleive the exhaust shop did that.
HIGHLY illegal, and the fines are huge (think $10,000+)

JustJap in Sydney sells 3" high flow stainless steel cats and flanges for $175. I bought one and is of very good quality for the price. I dont work for them and this is not a plug, just what I bought.

does this apply in nz cause i have got a few mates that havnt got cats and allways get warrents i dont think they check much in nz
