Engine Fire

What causes the 1uz-fe to burn? I am rebuilding a sc400 that had a engine fire. I deal in salvage cars all the time and I see ALOT of engine fires in the LS and SC400 cars. So I want to know what to check when rebuilding. Also my wife has a 1995 LS and I want to check it. If anybody knows please respond. Thanks

We had one burn about 6 months ago.

From what we could see it was a cat converter fire.

Our guess is the engine was in limp mode and the owner just kept driving with the ignition timing very retarded. Exhaust temps rose so high the cats overheated and set the car alight.

An alternative is it could have had an ignition coil (or lead) fail and pump raw fuel down the exhaust. As the other 2 plugs on that side of the engine would still work the exhaust from those two cylinders would set it alight.
