Hey Blokes,
First ever post so please bare with me, I have a few questions that I hope that some of you 1UZ Guru's may be able to answer.

Is it possible to run the 1UZ motor stripped of all it's electrickery, Read ECU and miriod of electrical sensors. The fuel source would be supplied by a carby or gas (LPG) throttle body. Add into the equation forced induction (most likely turbo) to produce as much torque in the lower rev range, by this I mean from 1500rpm or there abouts. The motor would be used in towing and offroad application.

The reason I am thinking of using this motor in my project is they are relatively cheap here in Australia and from what I have read are very strong needing no internal mods for what I am interested in doing with it.

What problems if any can those of you with more experience on this motor envisage I might have? And although I realise it is like asking how long is a piece of string what sort of torque figure do you think would be achievable at these lower rpm ranges?

All comments and advice appreciated.

P.S. please dont take offence to my reversing of the envolutionary path of such a fine motor :Eyecrazy:

Manifolds are available to run a carby on the engine. They're available in NZ.

You'll need a programmable ignition system as the twin distributors don't have provision for points or an advance mechanism.

Personally (as an owner of a UZ powered 4x4) I'd run the engine in standard trim. It will be more reliable than a carby version and lots more economical, not to mention the cost savings in the modifications
