Hello,

I'm currently in Adelaide, but I will be moving to Cairns in the next few months. I have a 1JZ-GTE GZ20 Soarer and I would like to get in contact with other Cairns members so I can get an idea of what the Cairns scene is like.

I just got back from a 1 week holiday up there and it was paradise. I was wondering if there are any workshops that specialise in *** imports, Toyotas, Turbos and MicroTech ECUs? If there are no suitable places I guess I'll have to sell the car.

What is engineering and defects like up there as well? Are there any race tracks?

Hey,

I'm not from 'cairns' as such, but just over an hour away....

There is a lot of *** imports getting around from what I have seen down there, so there has to be a few shops that do work on them...

For turbos, the guy to talk to is "Ray Hall Turbocharging" from what I hear... I'm not the best person to ask, as I refuse to take my cars to a shop unless its really needed.. I prefer to do the work myself...

As for engineering & defects.. not bad. I haven't had any problems getting around in my S2 Rx7 with an exaust that is far from legal.. neither have the other rotary crowed that I have talked to..

Since its not a skyline, you won't attract much cop trouble unless you bring it apon yourself... (Up here its skylines, and bogans in their fords/holdens)

I'm sure you will enjoy the cairns lifestyle..

Race Tracks... We wish

Nearest full 1/4 mile drag strip is Townsville, 4 hours away.

There is a 1/8th mile drag day 1/2 an hour from cairns once per year.. but apart from that.. its useless...

Don't bother selling the car.. if you want I can find out who does a friends work on his 200sx... all his work has been A++

Unfortunatly Cairns doesnt have much of a street scene.

I would think it would be a step back moving to Cairns after visiting S.A
September last year and seeing how close Malala, and AIR is to Adelaide.
I have even thought of moving down there.
You must have a good reason to move up here!
As Me3 wrote we have no drag strip or race circuit in Cairns.

Mcdonalds southside is a thursday night hangout.A few rice cars go mostly skylines and sylvias. There is a couple of soarers that go occasionally.The cops are targeting rice cars more and more. They have even had the transport dept stay open till 11/12pm so cops can send any car with mags or more over the pits.

As for workshops Ray Hall knows his stuff, specialising in turbos and autronic ecm, but is working on cars less wanting to concentrate on supplying parts.

I know of a guy who has worked on quite a few nissans etc, doing mods and tuning autronic and apexi. Not sure about microtec.

There is a new workshop starting up, dont know the name, but have heard he has done courses in LS1 tuning and haltec tuning. He also has a dyno dynamics dyno.

What can you tell us about your soarer eg: mods, power, times, etc
