ive been working on this motor for a while now. i got it in and the timing had jumped. we told the customer and he wanted us to pull the motor and do a complete teardown and check everything. idk why but its what he wanted. the only problem i found was that the valves were out of adjustment and the exhaus cams were not locked when last removed. we soon figured out the whole motor had been under water during the last hurricane here in houston and someone had just slaped the motor back together. well i called up toyota and noone could help me find the correct shims for the valves so we sent the heads off to a machine shop. when we got the heads back the first time they were farther out than befor and we sent them back. today i checked them again when i got them back. now the guy who worked on them came and checked them again. he then rulled out that the cams were bad...... go figure. now when i miked the cams ever single lobe was the same all the way around and all was good. my question is where can i find the shims and how do you exactly position the cam to check the lash? he was rotating them to where the lobe was starting to come down to the bucket. i checked them with the lobe 180* from the buckets. whos right???? me or him. the cold lash was supose to be set at .007 and .011 i reached .025 when i stoped after i got them back both times. now they wont touch them becaus they all think its the cams? they even tryed telling me that i had them backwards.... they only go in one way. so if yall can help then that would be awesom. sorry for the short story.
