Hi everyone.

Just wanting a bit of help and guidance with a possible conversion,

Im looking at buying an RA55 celica camry gt with a dicked 18rgeu. It has the same running gear as a ra65 celica (ithink)> w55, irs, f series diff. I beleive it to have a similar floor pan to a corona of the same age(1980-82ish)

SO basically i would like to know how hard this conversion would be, how well the standard drivetrain would cope and how the extra weight would affect handling.

Thanks in advance

Shouldn't be a big deal. Parts are beefy, and it fits in the lighter duty AE86 easier than many other swaps. You can also use many aftermarket AE86 parts on the Celica. (I had a couple early Celicas - a 76, 2 77's and have AE86 race car, and a LS400 race car, and a spare AE86 I was thinking of dropping the Lex engine into eventually)

Would there need to be any firewall or chassis modifacations for a fit?

Any engine swap has its modifications, parts mixing/matching wiring harness building, fabrication etc. Go to a breakers (junk yard we call em) with a tape measure and find out (the answer is probably not, but you may have to cut up the tunnel to fit the trans). This is not something I'd recommend for your first swap (sounds like it might be?). Its tight to the towers and will take plenty of fabrication.

Yeah, my first swap, but in saying that i am working at a performance based mechanics doing my apprenticeship and will have guidance from my boss, who has done hundreds of engine swaps including many 1uzs and a few ae85/86 1uz.

Are there any Celica, carina or corona swaps on here? They are meant to share a common chasis and have the same enginebay
