1UZ headers and steering shaft clearance

Hi folks,
Wanted to see if anyone has any pictures of their 1UZ exhaust header setups in a Cressida MX83/X81 or advice on how to make it clear when the steering shaft is very close to the block. Attaching pictures of how much clearance I have in my X81 Chaser as well as the stock GS400 header that was on the engine. I measured from the side of the block to the shaft and there’s only about 2” of space so I’m thinking it might have to go around the outside. Any thoughts?

I would probably just convert it to a log header and leave it at that.

It’s in a very awkward spot since the manifold stud is basically right next to the shaft. I’m thinking I’ll try to have the stock header modified to hug the block as tight as possible, just need to find a fabricator. Mostly just concerned that it’ll cause the exhaust flow to be uneven compared to the other side.

Yes does look tight, You could modify existing manifolds, probably easier to simply get a new pair of exhaust flanges and make a log style manifold. The 1uz seems to run fine with them.

Probably remove the steering column install headers then reinstall.
