I'm possibly ignoring something really obvious here, but isn't the Toyota Camry V6 basically a 1UZ with 2 cylinders missing?
With this in mind, could you not use a manual transmission from a V6 Camry to overcome this problem?
You may be able to bolt this 'box up to the 1UZ without an adaptor plate.
Then all you have to do is make it fit!

I'm sure someone will be able to disprove this, but I thought I's suggest it.

AFAIK the camry motor is only a 60deg V6, not a 90deg

And I've also heard that the camry gearbox is the same for the V6 and the I4, but that could be incorrect.

Peewee is correct, the Camry V6 manual trans is the same as an MR2 turbo trans... The Camry is packaged for FWD use, and is completely different than the V8...
