1994 LS400 Engine won't rev up with no load

I have just bought a front half cut to use engine and dashboard in a monster truck. Engine is still complete in the front half and the intention is to test run before removal. After hooking up the fuel tank supply and electrical it fired up and ran. However, as soon as you try to rev it up it dies, take the foot off and it will go back to idle. Thoughts please anyone.

There is normally a reason these motors come out of Japan. I find alot at the moment with stuffed leads and coils. Air flow meters problems are becoming more common. A few with cam and crank angle sensors faulty. What fuel pump are you using? Is it supplying enough flow and pressure? Cheers
