    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Well, crap. That would have been cheaper. Well, I already bought the parts to make my own, and tracking shows they're delivered today. If I don't like it, I'll shoot you a message.

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Thanks a lot! I'm betting freight alone won't be cheap, but I'll keep you in mind if I can't find something closer. Powered up the system this weekend. A couple makeshift fuse holders and relays to supply power (one controlled by the ECU as-intended). A test light confirms the CEL comes on...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Another little update. I've been sneaking out to the garage for an hour or so almost every night after the toddler goes to bed... I wanted to add a temp sensor for an aftermarket fan controller. The radiator would be the ideal spot for it, but since I had to block off ports in the thermostat...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Yea, it's a relatively low priority. But would be nice to have. The reservoir would simplify things, and if it comes with the side-effect of adding the idle-up valve, that'd be sweet.

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

All unneeded wires removed, needed wires coiled and marked, still a few to clean up and some stuff to add, but nearing the end. I added 2 wires up the run under the throttle body to the thermostat housing to add another temp switch for fan control. I'm also going to add a few wires up along the...

Thanks to gloverman for the tip....I found the part number for the coolant cap from the non-EGR engine to cap off the 2 ports on the rear bridge for the EGR/IAC/TB pipes, and ordered a pair from the dealership. Reused a couple clamps (not pictured). 2019-03-20_04-10-22 by Numbchux, on Flickr...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

The connectors are generally only a problem if they have to be removed, at which point they can be replaced anyway. Ideally, I'd pull it off the motor, strip all the loom and tape off it, and spend several hours sorting through exactly what I need, and getting rid of what I don't. But with a...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

I got my money's worth out of a 2-day TIS pass. lots of factory manuals, diagrams, etc. for this project. Too bad they don't have stuff for the '87 on there, but I knew that. Modified the throttle body. I discovered that the bore for the bearings for that butterfly is perfectly sized for 3/8...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Still gathering parts. Got a batch from the local Toyota dealer, a couple from a Lexus dealer, and a good sized box from RockAuto. I had the starter rebuilt at a local auto electrics shop this week. I picked it up today, he asked me if this thing was in a fire. All the plastic and rubber in the...

Stock. I don't forsee any need for any more power than stock, and it's just so much simpler, especially when considering controlling the stock transmission.

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Not much to update, gathering information and more of a plan before I pull the trigger on some of the parts orders. I just thought I'd say, I've had some time over the last few days to really start watching a few of your videos. There is a huge amount of information there, it's so cool to see...

Did some more exploratory surgery. Got the intake and valve covers off. Did a compression and leakdown test, but results were all over the place, mostly indicating that this thing has been sitting for quite a while. No shortage of carbon buildup. I think I'm going to proceed, and start it on the...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

Yea, I think there are 3 VSVs (I think one controls the EGR). There's 3 separate vacuum lines that wrap around the front of the plenum (zoom in on the picture above of it on the cart in my garage), as well as some long hoses hanging off the motor (I assume for a charcoal canister). The engines...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

I've done several rotated manifolds on Subarus....that all sounds easy :p Seriously, though, thanks for the feedback. I'm planning to pull the intake to do the starter anyway, so that gives me an idea on what to look for. Part of me wants to do some serious vacuum system simplification, and...

    87 4Runner 1UZ swap, get comfy

No, I have no desire to make it work. Just haven't decided how I'm going to delete it, by modifying this throttle body, or by replacing it with one without the extra parts (which I see on ebay for fairly cheap). But that's pretty low on the priority list right now. Cool, if you've got the link...

Here's the Truck: IMG_52134495177976 by Numbchux, on Flickr I've had this thing for about 10 years. Bought it with a blown 22RTE (loose drain plug after oil change), put a 22RE in it which had been really poorly maintained and blew a head gasket. I decided I wanted more power, so about 8 years...

    A340E Output Nut/Socket size

I guarantee this is documented somewhere on the world wide interwebz....but I can't seem to bring together the right combination of search terms to reveal it.... I need to remove the driveshaft flange/extension housing on an A340E from a '94 SC400. I don't have any sockets deep enough to check...

    1UZ/A340/87 4Runner, Transfer case options?

Yea, I saw that recipe. Certainly a possibility, though it involves sourcing used parts from a couple different vehicles, a clocking ring, then building a crossmember, shifter. I assume driveshaft flanges are different. Then tearing down the transmission. Not quite the direction I wanted to go...

    1UZ/A340/87 4Runner, Transfer case options?

For a future searcher that may come across this, I found most of what I was looking for in this write-up: http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=51485 More pictures and information: http://www.4wdaction.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35367 I'm not 100% sure if a transfer case...
